This is just a short announcement that we have started working on a “cookbook”
for mental ray in 3ds Max:

This is a growing collection of recipes on how to achieve certain effects with mental ray in 3ds Max.
Right now, I have collected a lot of external links and informations, as well as useful bits and pieces of discussions I encountered (e.g. on caustics, on GI and final gather, on gamma and linear color workflow etc.).
We would like to invite everybody to participate, it is really easy: you can edit any page, create new ones or add comments to existing ones (using the ‘discussion’ button at the top of each page).
More precisely, we need some initial contributions on
- volumetric caustics
- self-illuminating/glowing objects or geometry lights
- subsurface scattering
- motion blur
- all kinds of materials
Any edits will be logged and a full history is kept, so don’t be afraid to accidentally delete something.
