Hi,
I’m having a problem with my renders. When the camera is perpendicular to an object, it renders fine. When the camera hits a certain angle-relative-to-an-object threshold, it renders those surfaces all black (images attached).
I am using a composited material + mental ray to render the geometry edge faces.

I’m using 3ds Max Design
When I remove the composite material, it renders fine.
When change the color of the composite material, it renders those all black surfaces in that color (say, bright red).
I do not think it’s a lighting problem because I still have to problem even after I remove all lighting.
This happens on large or small objects.

I think it something to do with composite material, specifically the material I am using to render the edge faces, but I’m not sure how I can fix this.
Thanks for taking the time.
EDIT: So I’ve noticed that this seems to happen with long faces. When I subdivide those long faces into multiple faces, this seems to fix it. But that kind of defeats the purpose of using the composite material in the first place because that adds a lot of edge faces to my renders and makes them less “clean”.
