MB is killing my PC

#1

I’m using MB7. And just firing it up makes my computer cringe.

System specs:
3.2GH Intel CPU
1Gig Ram
128meg ATI Radeon 9200 graphics card

Sometimes launching it even hard crashes Windows XP forcing a re-boot.
And when it does launch. My CPU fans spin willdly trying to keep it cool. Even if I have just a simple basic rig in the scene without any meshes in the scene.

Is there something that can be done/turned off to give my poor computer a break?

Check for driver updates for the ATi card. MB may be having issues with that version of the drivers.

Unfortunately, there is no way to disable MB’s attempt to use 3D acceleration from the graphics card. It actually runs faster on my laptop because all of the OpenGL effects are disabled since the card is so old.

OK. Thanks for the reply.

I figured out that the crashing was due to the graphics used in the Animation Layout.
It doesn’t crash in the preview and editing layouts.
My video card definately isn’t happy with some of those pallets.

But video card crashing aside. Why does the program crank down so hard on the cpu?
I wouldn’t think that would be video card related. But I could be wrong.
Has anyone else noticed how the program tries to overdrive their cpu. Even with a simple rig in the scene?

I’ve been having the same problem, sometimes running at 65% cpu cpaacity on an Athlon X2 while doing nothing except having model sit there. I have no idea what the heck MB is trying to process.

same over here. I’m very low on memory (256) but have a P4 at 2.4Ghz, with generic no-openGL graphic card, and MB runs very nice, fluid and all, but the fan goes woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo (I cleaned up my computer recently cuz I had heating problems, and now I was wondering… wtf? is it dirty again, hehehe, thanks for posting so I know it’s normal what happens)

I have same problem , and I have same hardware like you , I try to install a new ATI drivers but there is no changes , MB just crash my PC , now … I download from www.alias.com a MB Personal LEarning edition , and everything is fine , no problems no crash , it is working , I don`t know but it is working.

I suggest you use nVidia’s video card, and upgrade your ram to 2GB.

We have found that if you have 2 monitors, they must be set to ‘mirror’ or ‘span’ or MB will kill your processor. If you’re using dual view, you have to turn it off when using the 2 screen set up to avoid taking that processor hit.

MB5.5 on a dual 1.2gig PIII with 2 gigs and an old ti4600 dual display. It runs smooth realtime and can drag and size any app windows back and forth on the screens.
