[Maya] UV Texture Editor Problems

#1

Dear Friends

I have a problem for a few days recently.
I am super newbie at Maya. And I want to make a texture into my Cone Cylinder.
But I facing a problem when the UV Texture Editor are not showing exactly
like my Cone Cylinder Model on the viewport.
Which tool that probably could adjust the texture appearance on UV Texture Editor
as you see at the picture it only show half of my entire checker texture.
Please help me on this case. Or if you have any tutorial to make a texturing
at the face of Cone Cylinder.

Thank you very much.
My Best Regards
Sanrego

I’m trying to understand what you’re wanting so, I’ll repeat it back to you.

What you’re wanting is to have the checker image to look straight, not stretched or
squashed in any way?

If that’s what you’re wanting, use the UV texture editor. You can use the selection tool and go into Select -> Convert selection to UV.

You can try polygons -> unfold.

My result: http://rghost.net/50297614

That should work. Granted, it’s not perfect, but it’s way better than where it is at the start.

If you’re still not satisfied, you can either add more edge loops, or try unwrapping in a program like Roadkill. Seeing as the shape you’re working with isn’t just square on all sides or a straight cylinder, it becomes more complicated.
I hope this helps.

Hello Taid,

Huge thanks to willing to answer me… its already solved
but now I have different problem, while iam going to the next step.
Now iam focussing to the -Create PSD Network- at UV texture Editor.
But when I -Create PSD Network- (after a litle adjustment, change
the image range). I cant render the entire viewport… its only
render -Create PSD Network- at the strating time.

Now Iam attached some screenshot, as it shown at the right -UV text editor-
, the -Create PSD Network- is only rendered for the certain area (greeen box).
not the entire.

This is getting weird because of its working successful on -UV Snapshot-
as the -UV Snapshot- has a -UV Range Option- …

Please help me with this thing, i am affraid that is a bug from Maya…
super thanks Taid …

Just as a general tip, keep your UVs with the min at 0 and the UV max at 1.
It’s also best if the texture file sizes are one of the following dimensions: 512 px, 1024 px, 2048px, 4096 px. It’s just a good standard to keep.

you may want to run through along with this guy in the process to make sure that you haven’t gone in some alternate way.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your reply, its very helping.

Now Iam going to the next step…
I try to learn a hypershade. but as far as I follow the tutorial,
i didnt find how to working with not straight texture,
you know its like notched texture, that impossible to create with edge or vertex.
okay…iam try to explained easily…
imagine the logo of pepsi…
and we want to put in to 1 of our polygon/face…
but not embedded as a jpeg texture, but using the shader.
in 3ds max I used to this with masking…
the white / black color will be masked and replace with the shader…
but how we can do this on maya…
thanks
