Maya: UV map not working...Please help

#1

Hello all. I’ve modeled this chair, UV mapped each section, then created a layout and combined the pieces.

When I texture this UV snapshot, it’s not working properly. I even re-mapped the whole thing and started again but still it’s not working…is this a bug…am I missing something?

What other info do you need?

Thanks so much in advance.

I think you might need to double check what it is you’ve actually painted and where, grab your texture file and the uv snapshot and overlay it in photoshop and have a look at what you’ve done.

Usually you’d be able to see the texture anyway on the uv editor window as you already have ‘display image’ turned on but for some reason its not showing. Has it been plugged into correct channel?

It looks like you’ve got black running through a bunch of UVs that I’m guessing aren’t supposed to be black… but it’s like that because thats what is painted on the map.

Strange things are a’foot at the Circle K…

  • The map/texture isn’t showing on the UV texture editor when it’s turned on…one strange thing.
  • The texture lays perfectly over the UV snapshot in photoshop --the black is because I rendered an AO bake that I laid over my leather texture, which is set to multiply.

The shells are all properly broken down and laid out properly…for some reason the UV mapping I did as a group isn’t laying properly…I don’t know. I’m totally confused. I’ve done this kind of stuff a bunch, and never seen this.

Thank you.

The only thing I can think is that when I UV mapped each individual piece, then later selected them all, did an auto-layout and combined all pieces into one mesh…something went haywire.

When I select the mesh (whether separated or combined) the UVs are laid out nicely, and when I open that UVsnapshot in PS, and lay my AO bake on it, it fits perfectly. Then I lay a texture over that whole thing and BOOM…things aren’t mapped correctly when I apply that in Maya…

Hard to say really without looking at scene file.
I combine geo all the time after UVing. Its never caused any issues down the road.
Things can go weird if you forget to delete history, I doubt thats what the problem is here.

if it renders fine than i would say it’s just maya’s stupid display.

in your UV editor, click on the “texture” drop down. there should be two things to select, select the other option.

The render shows just as it does in the viewport–wonky.

#8

could be that you’ve got two UV sets and your shader is connected to this other UV set.

#9

I tried switching to the second texture/shader choice in the UV ‘texture’ drop down and no change.

#10

upload the scene and i can take a look.

I recreated everything from scratch, and followed the correct procedures in UV mapping each individual piece…still messed up. I really don’t get it. This is frustrating as hell.

How do I upload the scene…let me see…OK I think I did it…hmmm…maybe not…MB is not a valid file extension…
