Maya refuses to render

#1

Has anybody run into a situation before where maya just simply refuses to render? I click the “render the current frame” button, the render view pops up and… nothing. Nothing happens.

For a while, it would render ONCE, then any attempts to get it to render would be fruitless. I’ve tried switching the rendered from maya software to maya hardware, mental ray, maya hardware 2.0… etc, nothing happens. I had to restart the program completely before it would render again. Now… it’s just stopped working altogether.

The ONLY way I can get it to render now is if I create a new render layer and assign the objects I want to render to that layer. Then, it renders ONCE, and refuses to render anything after. I notice that when I first create the render layer and add objects to it, the circular double-arrow icon – the one right between the render settings button and the renderable button for that layer – is greyed out. As soon as I fire off my one-and-only render for that layer, it turns red. What in the hell IS that button anyways? I’ve scoured the manual and can’t find any mention of it.

I would try setting the project to a folder. Maybe maya is looking for a place to put the images.

Project is all setup properly. :frowning:

I haven’t been investigating this much as my computer has been busy for the last 3 days with a big fluid sim. Now that it’s done, it seems that unfortunately, this was NOT simply one of those little glitches that goes away on its own, like I had hoped.

I’m still unable to render a second time without re-opening the project.

EDIT: The plot thickens: It appears batch render is working just fine. It’s only the “render view” that appears to be screwed up.

Is it maya2015? Do you use student version?

Trying to use a gif as texture will have the render come to a halt iirc.
