Maya Quad Draw snapping on wrong side of mesh

Hi Guys
I decimated a model in zbrush seperating armor pieces from the base mesh - but when i import the mesh into maya for retopology the verts start snapping to “the inside”.

What can i do to remedy this? Im not a big fan of merging everything and dynameshing it - it tends to give funky results.

Any advice is appreciated.

try reversing normals.
