Maya painting geometry with MASH or FX HELP!!!

#1

I am having an issue when trying to use MASH or paint geometry on a surface. I have some rock geometry I have modeled out and am trying to paint rocks at random along the edge of a desert trail. The problem though is that with both of these applications, the geometry shows up at a random scatter WAY outside of the brush stroke, so I cant keep the rocks just along the edge of the trail. I really don’t want to have to place hundreds of rocks individually.

In this screen grab I followed the edge of the trail with a brush radius about the size of the width of the path and you can see it shows up way to the right of where I painted.

What is happening here?!?! I am on a deadline if anyone can help!

Also another problem I am having with both FX and MASH is the geometry is not sticking to the surface. some geo hovers above and some hovers below.

Much easier to do this with 3dpaint tool script , use Mash for more complex projects.

Can you post the terrain and one rock to help you to solve this problem? TO me there are some unusual that can be fixed.

Is the terrain in a group.?
Have you deleted the history.?
Have you frozen the transforms.?
Have you tried to export the terrain as obj and reimported it.?
