Maya Paint Effects Twig Length Problem

#1

I have been learning a bit about paint effects and have encountered a problem with getting twigs to grow past a certain length. After a certain point the twigs will begin to grow shorter or stop growing at all.

From a video I watched the problem was solved by having Branch After Twigs checked and the Branch Split Max Depth set to 0 but this is not working for me.

Do you have tube completion on?

I do have Tube Completion on. If I turn it off the whole plaint disappears except for the very base of the creation tube.

The twigs length continues to grow until the value is .58, after that they begin to shrink and go back into the plant.

I think it is the way the twig is normalizing for other values… the length is hitting the lengthMax (under the creation block). You can work around this by increasing the value of entries in the twigLengthScale ramp to be greater than 1.0 (you need to either type the value or cntrl drag in the selectedValue cell to do this).

Thanks Duncan. It doesn’t work perfect but it’s close enough that I can do what I want.
