Maya Muscle Woes

Hey guys, wanted to know if anyone has seen this before (Maya 2012)…

Black muscles? Almost looks like flipped normals or something? If I zoom in so that the camera is inside the muscles you can see the proper shader, so I’m almost certain it’s flipped normals. I created the muscle and mirrored it on creation, not afterwards. Any idea if I should be concerned or if there is a way to fix this?

And my second question, somewhat unrelated, is what would be the best way for my muscles to wrap around the rib cage? Right now they are just passing through and I’d like to make it collide.

Nevermind about the 1st question, solved it with Edit Nurbs >>> Reverse Surface Direction… but I’d still like to know about my 2nd question.
