Maya Mental Ray out of memory error

#1

I tried to render a scene through Maya Batch render but i get this error in the log file:

Starting “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2014\bin\mayabatch.exe”

I tried to uncheck the Auto Memory Limit option and i have increased the Memory Limit but it didn’t work.
I have 20 gb of memory why Mental Ray does not recognise that?

Does this scene render in Maya interactively?
If yes … you can turn on the highest level of mentalray reporting verbosity (verbosity=6)and although the amount of output will be large, this may give you a clue as to what is going on.

#3

This is what i get from the log
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0ZPLA16-59wdW05dnAzb0FnR0U/edit?usp=sharing
What is my problem?

#4

its stopping around 10% into the importon phase
and then it fails trying to allocate memory

MEM 0.5 2208 MB info : allocation of 4294965827 MB failed: flushing

if im reading that right thats 4Tb of memory
I assume your doing something with lots of hair and somehow that is requesting huge amounts of memory
at the end of the log I see this

MEM 0.5 2208 MB info : run with ‘-message mem debug --’ for more info.
MEM 0.5 2208 MB info : please try lower -memory settings.

maybe try the lower memory suggestion which seems counter intuitive
reduce the amount of fur
and try the -message mem debug option

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Where do i have to run '-message mem debug – or where do i have to lower the memory setting?
Do you have some advice to make sure that while i reducing the number of hairs the impression of thick remains?

#6

put the following into a google search
mentalray “-message mem debug” option

I notice you have caustics turned on … is that on purpose?
Also turn off “export post effects” in the options folder of rendersettings unless you are really doing some maya glow. This will save a little memory usage.
