Maya layered shader

#1

Hi, I am new in Maya and I have the following problem:

My project contains a animation of a whale, jumping out of the water.
I worked with realflow and so on… everything works fine, except for the fact, that I have no Idea how to create a correct surface for the whale:

I hav a UV Texture of a nice whale skin on it, and the realflow particles simulate the whater around him, but I don’t know how to get a nice reflection on the whole whale…?
I thought I could use a layered texture, so a combination of the bitmap and a miamaterialx - which has a nice reflection and glossiness, like the water around the whale, so it looks like the skin is wet. So I put my whaleskin phong into the layeredShader, it appears, but I cant put my Miamaterialx into the second Material Slot…
What would you suggest, would be the best way to get a “wet surface” on the whale…?
thanks,

max

PS: When the connection Editor opens, I tried to connect attributes like “reflectivity”, “glossiness” and so on, but when I close the editor, the miamaterial does not appear…
