maya instances of a nested group of instances is it possible?

Mayas instances can only handle one group,
if you put another group of instances inside the first group, then
instance… wierd shit happens

but in order to build a lily and bend each set of leaves
and rotate in place it really needs a
subgroup of say all leaf a and instance leaf a’s

so how in maya can i group instances,
then group again then instance the top level group?

see example of lily, could only get it to work if no sub groups,
makes organization very difficult.

then to make it harder take your build curves and history objects with you,
and convert to non instance…equals mayas…disaster.

Hi cunnax,

Your post made me curious so I did a (very) quick mock-up of a lily, created a new instance with the Group option and started extracting leaves from the combined mesh. The extracted leaves were automatically put into groups which I renamed into First Group, Second Group etc. The Third Group was automatically created as a subgroup of Second Group, so I didn’t have to move anything manually.
