Maya Ground cracking?

I’m looking to replicate this kind of look exactly.

Unfortunately, blast code seems to be defunct, and trying this with things like DMM is creating unpleasant results. Any help is sincerely appreciated.

you could try animate a paint weights on a blend shape. Tension tool is also a way to shrink the geo and you can paint weights on that too. I’ll not deny I’m not looking too hard - the effect you showed was a bit unfinished and closes up after it cracks - there was also popping going on.
Personally I’d look at the hard way and model individual pieces as a starting point.
