Maya Fluid Multipass Question

#1

Hello

Im a little new to fluids and multipass rendering in general from maya
I managed to get my first ever maya batch render done tonight so im at that level.

I have done this simple fluid simulation of a flame, and wanted to know how to approach
the multipass rendering / splitting of the fuel / temp and density etc so i can bring them back
into nuke for post / comp work

I tried to turn on what made sense but at the moment only one volume shader working but it
out put the entire volume on its own not the fuel etc

Any help is much appreciated
Kind Regards
SA

also while im here, id like to ask is there anyway to control the direction of a volume emitter ?
one alternative is to just rotate the container but is there a way to control the direction I’ve used a wind field / fan here. It worked for me in hoodini worked nicely here also but just for my own knowledge i thought id ask

Unfortunately there is no quick and easy solution for rendering passes for volumes in Maya.
Here are two suggestions. But keep in mind, neither of them will give you something as amazing as a muti-layer exr or even do it all in one render.

  1. Single Fluid: Get the looks that you want on your fluid shape for a ‘pass’ and save it as a preset in the attribute editor. Then at render time you could toggle each preset before submitting each render.
2 Multi-Fluid: Assuming that your fluid sim is cached, you could create duplicates of your fluid and apply the cache to the duplicates. Setup each duplicate to render however you like and then just toggle visibility for each render.
