maya f-curves basic question

#1

hi all–fairly new to maya and animation in general–so, basic question:

when animating an object, say a camera, I get multiple (x,y,z) curves to edit in the graph editor. This is great, but lets say I want to control the easing on the camera translation globally–in other words I don’t want to start messing w/ just the x translation curve, because then it won’t match up well with the others…

is there a way to get the translation moving along just how you like, then adjust the speed/easing in all axes on a global level?

thanks very much! LML

if you have a key on frame 1, and another key on frame 50. go to frame 48 (or so) set a key, then drag that key to the left on the timeline to say around frame 30.

everyFrame, thanks very much for the tip

so I’ve just tried that, and I see what you’re getting at, but there is an unwanted effect (that may be a result of my settings?): the object slows at the end, but reverses direction just a bit at the end, and I see in a few of the f-curves that instead of just flattening out, they have actually dropped down the other way at the end…

any more info on this would be much appreciated

ahh you have much to learn then. your keys are set to “spline” tangents. You’ll wanna set them to either flat, or go in there and edit the tangent manually. which is most iikely what you’ll have to do for the breakdown keys.
