MAYA CT Scan (MRI Scan) Help

#1

hey guys, I need help creating a ct scan of a 3d model in maya,
http://berglondon.com/blog/2010/09/14/magic-ipad-light-painting/
heres an example at the 40 sec mark that shows what i need
I want to be able to render a ct scan of the texture the model has!

what I done before was create a plane , add the 3d model inside and do “boolean” so the plane has the hole of the object, then create a wireframe to show the ct scan of that frame.

problem with this is it dosnt show the texture

please help out guys and thankyou in advance!

I’m not sure how your textures would really show up in the first place, since you’d be looking at a thin slice of a model, but I may have a solution. If you change your camera’s near and far clip planes to be numbers that are close to each other, you would only see things in a very narrow range away from the camera. Then you would just move the camera through the objects. Hope this helps.

ahh! this is an awesome solution thanks for the input! but yh the geometry is still thin and dosnt show the mesh when its straight haha, maybe if i extrude the faces of the whole mesh very slightly a few times it might give a thickness effect…but got no idea how to do it x.x

thankyou again

What texture are you trying to show? A screenshot might help solve your problem. If it’s just a simple color, maybe look at toon shaders to produce outlines? Or maybe use a two-sided shader to have different colors on inside and out, and then use that in after effects or something to properly color the resultant render.
