maya cg on linux

#1

does nvidia’s cg work with maya 5 linux?? I cannot find anything on the topic

thanks

#2

yep, there’s a linux version of the Cg SDK. Whether a specific Cg plugin works on linux is another matter - but you can always write your own

#3

isnt cg a dx9 realtime shader?

dx9 is windows only as far as i know

#4

As far as I know the realtime plugin is only available for dx9? which leaves us linux ppl with viewport cg.

I’m afraid that writing my own plugin is a bit beyond me…though would be nice.

thank, Matt

Cg? The actual language Cg is a programming language by nVidia for creating shader programs which can be used in different versions of Direct X and OpenGL. So it is not only for Windows. ^^

But it’s possible the actual Cg for Maya plugin is DirectX only.

Is there a good cg for opengl resource that somebody knows of??

#7

I did find a couple of tutorials by googling, but the best resources are the books you can download from http://developer.nvidia.com

#8

http://www.cgshaders.org/ is the best place I know of that covers the Cg language.

Also Nvidia’s book ‘The Cg Tutorial’ by Randima Fernando and Mark J. Kilgard describes how to handle Cg in OpenGL as well as Direct X. Although not webbased nor free I’d consider that a pretty good resource. I think it probably describes pretty much everything you might need to get started.
