Max09- Mudbox 1.0, Edge Flow Question

#1

Hello all, and thank you right away for any advice that is give.

Ok so Im finally getting pretty decent with Mudbox, but one problem keeps coming up. When I design and create my base meshes, anything with holes, windows, or doors alters my edge flow. By this, I mean, I have to place edges close to the open angles of the mesh to prevent the smoothing from “freaking out”. But when I do this, any sculpting done in these zones is horribly disfigured. I know that it is because my areas around the windows or doors is too dense and are not perfect polygons.

So my question is, what can be done to help smooth these problem areas out? Is there an alternate way I should be doing this in max before I import into mudbox? Or am I doing something wrong in mudbox? Ive attached an image from Max that I will bring into Mudbox to show you the segments Im specifically talking about. Thank you all for any help you can offer.

turn off “smooth position” in mudbox…
mesh --> add new subD (optionbox)

Thank you very much Oglu for your quick response. So if I turn off the smooth option, does this mean that I now longer require all of the additional edges I created close to the doors and windows to prevent the smooth? Or must these remain in place still?
