#3

thanks a lot!

safe05, when you click on the links, the links go dead or about halfway load and stop, not sure whats causing that problem or if you knew, just a heads up.

#5

sorry double post

#6

Dude, you are the shizzle!

#7

Thanks all, glad you like em.

Aquila: try right-clicking and “saving as…” for the movie. if it’s still causing you problems, let me know which links you’re trying and I’ll dig a little deeper. Good luck!

#8

Cool that advice on the links worked, thanks

hrmm one thing here though? Once I got the movie dl… player didnt show the videoside it only played the voice. I got a message saying the required compressor could not be found. I tried searching for updates on rt but its up to date, any suggestions/directions there?

#9

Hmm…try grabbing the most recent Quicktime installer. Quicktime 7.03+ is needed for the h.264 codec. Let me know if this doesn’t work. Cheers!

#10

yup got it workin bud, just watched the first 5. These videos…imo should be shipped with 3dmax, they are very informative, clear and easy to understand, you did great job on them, keep them coming and thanks a million!

#11

I’ve gone through and watched a few of these.very well done and informative…2 questions though

where is the “shadows” tutorial… #19 I think ??

And what is the BrMax button to the right of the MAxScript button ??
Thanks for taking the time to make them

Thanks for the compliments!

Learning new software can be very intimidating. I didn’t have any help learning Max back in v1 (actually 3D Studio r4 for DOS), so I feel a personal obligation to (hopefully) make the process a little easier for others. I’m happy that you’re finding them useful, it means a lot to me.

imgumbydammit: The shadows one (in addition to about 10 more) are coming soon. I just wanted to have a little place holder while I finished up the global illumination stuff. As for the BrMax button…oops. I’m part of the Brazil/2 beta team and they have a couple scripts related to it.

Hey safe05  I have question about formating materials to use in max.

I currently have many jpeg files Id like to open and work with in Max. But everytime I try I get an error, Im guessing the files cannot be loaded because of incorrect file format. I noticed you somehow loaded a head picture in your organic head tutorial via photshop?
How was this done and what format should these files be in so that I might convert them and get things rolling?

#14

I’m surprised to hear that you’re having problems with JPEGs. Max’s image format support is actually quite robust, I mean they still support SGI RGB format. What does the error message say?

#15

File open failed:C\Documents and settings blah blah blah lol. and then when i try importing them, they dont even show up in the menus rofl, so its something Im not doing correctly, Im just not sure what…

ok so i just tried importing and it says “no appropriate import module found”, then it says “improper file format.”

#16

Wow cool. I’ve been wanting to get into 3Ds for some time now. Maybe now i have a reason.

THanks dude.

#17

Now when you say “manipulate it in max”, what would you like to do with it? From what you’ve said so far, it sounds like one of two things:

(1) you’re using “File->Import” which is not the way to go. That’s only used for importing scenes into Max. If you’re specifically interested in using textures/images, I would recommend having a look at part 13 & 14 of the series.

(2) another possibility is that your JPEG images are corrupt. go to the “maps” directory under your 3D Studio Max root and try loading one of those.

Let me know if you’re still having problems.
