matte painting and compositing

#1

just wanted to know if there’s people out there who have or are doing both and if there is, past the obvious art connection between them, a good pipeline between the 2 that you work in on a production.

currently ive got a decent standing with comps and enough experience to hold my own while still learning advanced stuff.

Lately however its very mundane because all issues that came up ive dealt with and theres nothing new, not in my current production, to keep me shall we say interested.

I was looking into either VFX or matte painting, at least on the side at home, on weekends and maybe eventually a few courses to keep my interest sparked in the industry and at the same time advance myself artistically as well as technically.

Im wondering if anyone had experience in “branching out” of their normal realm and doing a new thing that they ended up loving…or if it felt more like a pain/chore,etc

Cheers.

When i first got into matte painting, art was something i had never done before. I started training myself traditionally at the same time as learning photoshop, and now i love traditional arts!

Anyway, exploring new areas of field is always fun if you like what you see.
The “pain” is secondary.
