Hey there I’m just trying to render out a simple laser beam, but it’s coming out too transparent when I render it out as a RGBA png file and I can’t work out where I’m stuffing it up in the Node Editor.
Can anyone help me out, see my file here

Here’s my result…
the render looks fine…

but when you look at the alpha it’s really transparent…

I’d really like the white beam part of it to have hardly any transparency, any clues there?
Yeah unfortunately it’l be an animation in Flash, so maybe I’ll just use the Screen Blend option for a Symbol.
I suspect that by blurring the alpha channel, blender eliminated the 100% white values making everything transparent, so you have to handle the alpha channel manually:
Either duplicate the portion of your node setup in between input and output as far as it affects the alpha channel, connect the alpha outputs of your render layers and feed the result into the alpha input of your composite node, or since in this case your resulting image includes 100% white, you can simply feed the output of the rightmost add node into the alpha input of the composite node. This way a greyscale copy of your output is used for the alpha channel.
If you aren’t dependent on using sky alpha, using straight alpha (in render context - shading) instead should further improve your result.
