Matching regular render with render passes?

#1

Hey
I’m trying to match a regular render, f9, with a render using different passes. I just can’t get them to be the same. Any help would be appreciated.

The 1st image shows how I set them up.
2nd is the image using the passes.
3rd is the regular render.
The light and Fg are in a precomp with both layers set to ADD. This entire comp is then set to multiply.

The differences between the regular render and passes:
No shadow on the sphere. Overall darker and more contrast-y.

I’m using tga files where each image has an alpha channel.

Which progrma, which renderer, which gamma?

#3

Rendered from 3ds max. Using mental ray. Gamma is whatever is default in 3ds max 9. Not linear workflow.

Compositing in After Effects.

#4

Here’s another one. This time with gamma 2.2.

First image shows the regular render.
Second shows passes with a light pass (direct- & indirect light) and a shadow rendered on its own.
3rd image has a light pass that includes direct-, indirect light and shadows.

(the tick boxes from the render pass window for “Lighting”)

2nd and 3rd image also has reflection and specular set to Add.
3rd image is closer to the regular render but still not very good.
