Matching clip locations...

#1

Hi guys, I’m trying to learn Motionbuider (7.5) and have been having fun experimenting in the story window. But, I’m stuck at the moment trying to match the location of two different clips, on two character tracks.

I’m using the Humanoid character, and both the Superhero movements (from the clipart dvd) H_Flip and H_Pushover. I’ve put the flip movement on the track above pushover, halfway through. I’ve set flip to passthrough so pushover is played when not playing flip. That’s all simple, but I’m not sure how to offset one of the clips so the animations are played from the same place (such as off one of the feet). I tried using ghosts to shift things around, but MB just seems to crash.

Can this be done, and if so, what’s the best way to go about it? All the tutorial examples I have match clips on the same track. Thanks!

Here’s a screenshot of the setup for those who are interested…

The top track has the character walk forward and push, and then walk around a half circle. The flip simply has the character stop, flip backwards and then raise hands in the air. I could set the whole thing up on one track and match+fade razored parts of the tracks, but I’m curious if things can be done this way. The main issue with this way is matching the offsetting of the character.

Useing the ghosts to shift them is how it works, not sure why its crashing, 7.5 has had lots of patches so if your not all patched up, it could just be a bug or it might be your graphics card/driver …

read up on the match clip settings and picking the ghost and moving it are the ways to align them.

I’m using a completely unpatched nfr version (so no Autodesk membership, etc). I have managed to move things via ghosts, and that did work at one stage, but I think I’m missing something when it comes to laying down keys for positioning the character that way, because they aren’t being set when I expect they normally would.

Thanks for the confirmation of the right method, though

EDIT: Sorry, just re-reading your post- can you match clips over multiple tracks? The manual doesn’t seem to say you can…
