mass duplicating and replacing moving null_ shapes

#1

hi all,

there is a particular path i would like some text to follow in 3D space, a helix spiral

i learnt that you can import .ma files from maya and have the locators and cameras imported as well, so i animated a locator to move in a helix fasion and it imports successfully

now if i’m doing something like credits and i want multiple words to follow this motion path what’s the best way to do it?

what i thought of doing was duplicating the null_ shape layer over and over again replacing it with a composition containing the names and titles.
this can easily greatly boost the number of composition in the project window and i’m not sure if it’ll slow down the computer really bad (i suppose not seeing as how these credits are less than 150 people)

i thought of doing this by using javascript to automate the task (i’d have to figure out how to replace layers and mass apply effects and filters too…) but if there’s a less intense way of doing this then please suggest it

Expression --> valueAtTime() is all you need to reference existing motion. Please study Dan Ebberts “Follow the Leader” stuff at his site. And the rest depends. As soon as the text is out of frame, nobody cares where it goes. It’s absolutely possible to mangle text string expressions and to recycle the layer over and over…
