Masking a particle?

#1

hi guys, im having a bit of a problem. probably a stupid simple one. Im working on a shot where theres a soldier who shoots a guy. ok no problem. the muzzle flash went nicely. However theres caution tape in the way.

if i draw a mask, i only get ot use one mask, if i come back to make another, neither work.

How can i mask it, so that the caution tape stays on top while the shot happens behind it?

also anyone got any good tips on making light interact with the scene? so far ive just been painting with add/burn/multiply with various opacity settings. works nice for a 2 or 3 frame muzzle flash

probably a stupid question. its probalby how i have it setup ors omething in the tree

thanks in advance guys.

Tried to use operators of selection before the particle operators? You can also use operators of color correction to increase the brightness of the image during the shoots. Part of particles also can be used to create reflections in the environment.

well ive seen on creative cow how to do this with shadows, reflections using an alpha matted scene…how the heck can i do the same with particles? i cant find the alpha for the emitter anywhere

i found that using masks in painting seems to do my masking job just fine

I’m not sure but maybe nesting the particle layers could help. If not render out just the particles and import as footage.
