Mari bump layering / bump baking

#1

i am trying out mari. and i know how to layer color diffuse layers in mari with channels and shader modules. when i am finished i bake the the shaders down and export.

but i dont undestand how to layer bump channels and then bake them together for export. should i paint seperate channels for positive bump and seperate for negative bump? and how to blend them together since the shaders dont have blend options?

thanks

Errm… why don’t you just do it the same way you do it in Photoshop? I make a new shader for my bump layers and simply blend them to get the map I want. I then bake that.

#3

you make a new surfaceshader or shader module?

can you preview your blended bump layers with the bump shadermodule?

#4

I make an entirely new shader. I then bake the results and try it in my master shader setup which has all my different attributes set up.

#5

thanks for the help.

so i would have 3 shaders.
-default
-main for diffuse,spec,dirt,…
-bump

i bake the diffuse blend shadermodules from the bump shader. this creates a new channel. and then connect this channel in the bump preview shader module. if i dont like it i go back to the bump shader and tweak the diffuse blend shadermodules and bake again.

default is only meant for previewing single channels

you will want these shaders:

diffuse
spec
bump
Final Result Shader

…a shader for each final channel you use, so that you can layer your different channels and blend them as you want before baking.

The final result shader will have all of the final channels in it so you can see the results after the bake.

thanks for everything.

last question. scalar channels are for bump, reflection, disp,… color is for diffuse. scalar 1.0 and color for 2.2 ?
