MARI: Anomalies in mesh, UVs or texture?

Please take a look at this.

This is the mesh submitted for the MARI Texture Challenge 2012. In MARI, my mesh is full of these funny little specks. You can’t paint on them, so first I thought they were small polygons, which had not been correctly UV mapped. But upon closer scrutiny, you can see that the shapes do not correspond with the tris underneath. They do seem to sit where one patch ends and another begins.

Any suggestions how to eliminate them?

Try turning on the “Toggle whole Patch Project”. This will let you paint on areas that Mari considers to be in the area of texture bleed. It does look like your texture isn’t bleeding at all, so try doing a manual “Bleed Patch Egdes” in the Patch Menu as well. It’s something of a known bug from time to time that Mari bleeds weirdly.
