The concept is that you are looking down a light well to see the different levels. The base was created in Blender.

exploring a pipe option

Hi Timothy,

I like how these WIPs look. I can get a sense of where you’re probably taking it and look forward to seeing more… definitely a promising start.

Maybe it’s too late or not my place to bring this up (especially since I don’t think I’m even entering my own image this month…ha!) but if - and I realize this is a big 3D IF - you aren’t already too far along, I would honestly consider quickly re-booting this current 3D imagery in favor of something you model using a photo as an image plane for reference. I only say it because the brief asks for a photo image of the interior of a mall as our starting point, which in a real-world scenario involving a client would obviously be an important part of the instructions to factor in. Or if you’re not concerned about following the brief because you just want to do your own thing and model in Blender (which is cool and I say more power to you if that’s the case), it still seems like you could get an even stronger, more intricate result if you use an image plane to model from. Certainly better than what’s generally possible from scratch without a reference image …AND you’ll be more in line with the challenge brief.

Sorry for meddling. If it’s too late for changes, then please just completely ignore everything I’ve said. :stuck_out_tongue:
The imagery does look nice and I like the pipes. More cowbell …uh… I mean pipes please.

Thank you for your feedback. Its not too late. I have unfortunately been side tracked with other things. From what I gathered initially I caught that there were suppose to be multiple levels and a variety of independence on each level while still maintaining access to additional levels. Regardless I need to reread the brief and take the requirements into consideration before I start working on the image again.

Whew! I felt odd bringing that up but am glad you got what I was saying and that maybe it’s not too late to switch it up a little. To be honest, I’m of the opinion that you should do whatever you feel like doing because it’s your artwork. And do whatever you’re trying to brush up your skills on of course. But, yeah, as far as the brief goes, I’m guessing a quick re-boot wouldn’t hurt. The main thing is that you’ll have another nice piece to add to your portfolio, and that’s all that really matters in the end, right?

Anyway, your concept and Blender model itself looks really promising to me. Hope you have a chance to finish it one way or another. I wouldn’t sweat it too much on re-doing anything if you don’t have time. Seriously. Just chalk it up to the learning process, finish what you have exactly the way you have it, and then start fresh again next month.

I think your piece could benefit from photo texture, just to break the CG up and give the area a little life.
