March 2015 - Tim Byrne

Here is my BG plate ( just using the left hand side) and here is my concept which I have worked into and had to stop before I got too carried away - does anyone else have that?
Going for a kind of slummy, dirty future. I’m hoping I can make this look real and not still a concept - I guess that’s the challenge!

Hi Tim, just wanted to tell you that the sketch is awesome… really nice.

Look forward for the image progress. Regards

Couldn’t agree more, fantastic plate and epic concept sketch can’t wait to see it progress! Well done

I agree… hoping you can push this through to a more refined version too because the concept is friggin’ awesome and I want to see the finished matte painting. I do know what you mean about possibly getting carried away sometimes, but I like all the nitty-gritty detail here, Tim. Put it this way: my rule of thumb over the years has been that if I feel slight pangs of jealousy when I look at another artist’s painting? Then I know it’s because there’s a level of (potential) bad-assness there that I can’t help liking.

Cheers Thaddeus and cheers guys. Hmmm running out of time again - I spent aaaaages adding in details to make the tower block look more of a shanty dwelling before I remembered CG textures, which has loads of asian tower blocks! Doh! I am learning that matte painting is about saving time where you can as much as adding detail elsewhere. This month is going to be tight, still got a way to go…
