March 2015 - Michael Holvoet

#1

Hi all,

Here is my first WIP for this month.
For the concept, I started with the idea that all building was linked each other by a train station, or a metro station. As this, people are able to jump from a building to another, and so on, food, cloths, etc for the shops.

All building are design with only 1 model, and floors are composed with différents level :

  • metro and walkthrough with maybe a park, and sport equipments
  • living floors
  • shop floors

I’m waiting your feedback :arteest:

Looks promising, Michael. I like the clear tube metro/train idea. Reminds me of the old 70’s movie, Logan’s Run. Maybe you’re already planning this, but my immediate impression is that I would look for ways to open the space up a bit, either in the far background and/or vertically upwards, so the building has a more massive/expansive and intricate feel to it? Right now it seems a bit claustrophobic. Just my opinion since you asked for feedback. Hope it’s helpful.

#3

Thanks for the feedback ! And your opinion is important for (because I like the work you posted here  )
I will review the claustrophobic mood, to create more space. Actually, the dimensions for the building are 50m width/70m lenght and 150m hight. I think those dimensions could be correct if I rescale some détails (like metro which looks too big and eat too much space).
For plants/trees, same thing…

Nice start, hats off for you for diving into 3D. I do agree with Thaddeus though it would be nice to have a more open space to show more of the environment.

#5

Thanks Daazed for your feedback.

I tried to open a little bit the space as you and thaddeus suggested.

Below here the result (dont pay attention to the colors, lights, material, etc… they are just here to give an idea for the end result).

I added also doors to create an lightening entry, also elevator and escalator (I don’t know if it’s the right word in English  ) to give the feeling that building is spacier regarding to the sides. (I will add more escalator to create a kind of complex network and delete a little bit the wall to create a huge opening)

Hi,

Nice start for sure…
i liked that you opened up the space more… great over all lighting going on…

For me I’m not liking the center pillar, and the lights at the top…
I think it tends to lead me off the focal point

Great start and much luck with it

Thanks Daniel for your comment.

When I look again the last render, I understand what you say about the central pillar and lights.
My eyes are immediately caught by them, and it’s shouldn’t be the focal point. I will review this issue

Hi all,

Below, the point that I am now… it’s very long to do, and not finish (not at all :scream: )

What is your point about the way I try to achieve ?

A new WIP

What I think could help your piece more is a little texture to break up the clean CG elements, I feel that would really push the realism. You’ve got a nice dynamic angle, and all the pieces in place just needs that extra touch of life.

#11

Thanks Aaron,

I tried to add more details and textures.

Below the final shot for this month. All feedbacks are obviously welcome  (but I don’t think being able to spend time on it to make correction before end of month, but any feedback will let me able to improve myself for the next !)
