Many sketches

#1

Hi,
it has been nearly 2 years since I did not draw and I take it gently.
I would put all my sketches here, hoping you’ll get tips and advice to give me
I’m sorry for the image quality because I can not run my scanner on Mac Lion then it is taken with my phone … :’(

thank you

The structure is pretty good.

Here are a few things I think could be different: http://sta.sh/01s53td80jry

(Now that I look at your picture again, I see that there are eyes. I didn’t notice them at first.)

You could work more on the shading too. Establish a direction the light comes from and try to see the volumes. The head as a whole, the cheeks, lips, nose etc.

Most of the time, the light comes from above, so you usually get shadow under the nose and under the chin.

I did a quick test shading: http://sta.sh/0am161rf903

I hope you don’t mind these paint-overs.

Hi,
scanner always broken sorry for quality

I think the eyes could be bigger again, and his nostrils too.

What looks like this muscle in your drawing starts and ends at no particular place. I would like it to go from somewhere to somewhere, as if it had an actual function.

Another paintover: http://sta.sh/01i0jnudpd9g

Here I let that muscle go from somewhere beneath his collar and tucked it in below his scull, approximately as it does in humans. But since he’s clearly not human, you’re free to put it wherever you like.

It’s not because it’s not a human that there is no rule to follow. You’re absolutely right
I’m tried to be very careful to the placement of muscles.
By the way, I have updated the image. I plugged the scanner on my wife’s Windows and it works well

Thank you again to you to dwell on my sketches;) It’s cool

Congratulations on getting the scanner up again. Photographing drawings is an arduous and not very rewarding task.

Thank you again to you to dwell on my sketches

It’s so much easier to give advice and meddle with other peoples drawings than to get my own stuff in order. I’ll take any excuse not to draw when things doesn’t turn out as good as I want them.

Zombie World ^^

Don’t approach your drawings as if they are contour line shapes with some hatching thrown in as textures to break up the flat surfaces. REALLY think about values and forms and planes and make a sincere effort in modeling the forms. The world isn’t just a white canvas with objects appearing as contour line art, and then some hatching here and there, while the whole scene is just a bright value. Look at the world around you–for example, right now. Look around you. There are many values–from very bright all the way to very dark, with most surfaces in the range of middle-values.

You should head on over to the Art Techniques & Theories forum (linked below in my signature) and read the sticky threads. They will help you immensely in your artistic growth.
