I was wondering whether anybody outhere could help me. I have an office worker character and want to model a shirt which folds and creases as he is being animated. i have tried a few times in cloth to do this but am getting stuck every time. I need serious help so anything would be great.
Cheers

Max 8 does have a tutorial on creating clothing. Not sure where your stuck at. From top view only, spline model your clothing shape, make sure you make it big enough to wear it can wrap around the character, duplicate it if needed for the other side (spline model sleeves seperate if there are sleeves) and attach all. Go to modifier and add garment. From there you can select the faces and move/rotate them and stitch them. After that, add the cloth modifier. I haven’t got this technique to function right though. Max crashes on me from the garment modifier and the cloth has not yet wrapped around my character right yet.

Hey Deepsky,
I followed the tutorial in max 8, mine doesn’t crash tho, have you updated your version to the service pack one, free on autodesk website?
Im trying to make the type of shirt you see on an office worker, i could model the clothes but i want them to react as he moves as i said earlier. do you know how to spline the clothes correctly so that they sew together correctly? maybe we can help each other out?

Yeah, did do the update last week. The garment maker would tweak out and my panels would disapear. As for the cloth simulation, I did more searching yesterday and found my whole cloth troubles may be becuase I am working in inch units and the cloth modifier is set up in CM. There’s what… 0.397 inches in a cm, so I adjusted my cloth units, but things are still wacky and the simulation never finishes, hours go by and it’s still trying to simulate one frame. I have a new BOXX workstation too, so I have a fast machine. I am going to try exporting my character into a new scene and size her to default and use the defualt cloth settings.
As for creases and folds, in the cloth modifier, have your tried changing your cloth preset? There cotton, silk, leather, rubber, ect.
I did come across one thread here last week and someone was talking about using splines to do what your wanting, I think it’s in a reacter thread.
