Making A Lossless Video

#1

Hi guys. How can I make a lossless video from my renders on 3DS Max? I have heard that I should render my frames as PNGs, but how can I combine it as a video?

Thank you, Guys.

Edit: I have found out that I can use VirtualDubMod to do this. However if you know another way, please let me know.

Hi,

We use to render out as Targa files in our office & the results were pretty good & then take them to AE to edit & output as video file.

Also PNG’s are good when you have a transparent BG.

You may encode files using the RAM-player in 3ds Max.

I’ve always used .iff files. I’m not in a position to say it’s the best format but they’ve always worked excellent for me. Nice and easy with transparency as well.

As for putting them together, I suppose just whichever compositing package you prefer. I use nuke and ae depending on the project. Keep an eye out in ae for the frame rate you import as. I’ve had my fair share of the default being 30 when I rendered out from maya at 24 and having that ‘wtf’ moment.

I second this, iff files are a good option.

3ds Max doesn’t render to iff.

Yes you are right, but iff files are good. Thats why i mentioned either targa or png can be good. Also EXR files are really good, they won’t clutter with lot many passes files in different folders. I don’t know if 3D Max can output EXR files, can anyone clarify.

Virtualdub or avidemux are faster than any other mentioned and free.
No compression-it’s loseless as simple as that.
