Making a looped walkcycle follow a path?

#1

Hey Guys

I’ve created a walkcycle and in the story window have looped it 5 times. Obviously at present the walkcycle walks in a straight line. I’ve added a 3d curve into my scene and have drawn a path i want the walk to follow. I’ve tried playing around with the path constraint, but i havent had much luck so far. What should the constrained object be so that it follows the path?

If im not going about this the right way, please let me know.

Thanks

You need to group both the cntrl reference and the geometry under a null.

Then apply the path constraint to the null.

I need to group them or parent them? In the schematic view i parented the control ref and the geometry under a null… is that what you mean? If its not, please explain a little more, im still quite new to this software.

After i parented the control ref and the geometry, it kind of work except that normally the control ref didnt move along with the animation so now when it follows the path, the walk cycle is moving twice the distance.

you were corect in parenting the objects under the null.

now what you need to do is get rid of any forward movement in your walk cycle.

#5

Get rid of forward movement? Hmmmm… whats the best way to do that? Sorry to keep asking potentially stupid questions.

Thanks

#6

when you make your walk cycle. make it stationary. don’t apply foward motion to the hips .

for some existing walkcycles you could delete the Z translation curve.
