Great Tutorial! Did someone say Inking? Why…that was my gig for a whole year at a little startup that went into Album covers instead! To this day I hate and love inking (I was sick alot that year…sneezing+inking=bad art).
Steve Rude put out a handy [BOOK](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1569712581/104-8720228-9498344?v=glance&n=283155) not long ago on the subject. It's got some really great examples and explanations, as well as offering pages to ink. I always hated it when folks said all I did was trace, when you get right down to it, it's the inks that you see in the book more so than the pencils. Like Eliseu said, it's an art in itself and usually pencillers (especially beginners) shouldn't do it themselves.
DC also put out a BOOK.
Edit: Eliseu, when you send your pencils to an inker do they generally ink over the pencils directly or smack a piece of Vellum on top and ink on that? Dick Ayers suggested Vellum to me once (though in passing admittedly). I tried the Vellum thing and it never sat well with me. I like to go straight to the pencils. Just curious.
thank you so much…i always wanted to start again Drawing my own comics and now this great tutorial seems to be a nice start for me…
THX for sharing:applause:
can you explain #7 again, just the measurements for bleed, trim and live.
thanks. what units are they? what is that in inches?
page is 11 X 17.
Bleed: 6,875 X 10,497
Trim 6,625 X 10,187
Live 6,125 X 9,687
this is great.
I really enjoy your point of view on the whole topic. The fact that you recognize your strengths and weaknesses in the process reinforces how much a team effort it is. I forget that sometimes.
Thanks
I thought he was referring to pixels but 11" x 17" at 300 or 450dpi doesn’t equal those numbers.
That is a hot tutorial, and must of taken you a fair bit of time to put together.
Thanks for sharing. ![]()
I was always a huge comic book fan. My life has been so consumed with technical how to do it thoughts thats its nice to remember that its really about the love for the work and unbridled creativity. My inspiration for the day! Savour of Creative juices! …well you get the point …thanks!
Those numbers are in inches.
In parts of Europe the decimal point is replaced by a comma.
So in the states it would be:
6.875in x 10.497in for Bleed
6.625in x 10.187in for Trim
6.125in x 9.687in for Live
also, to add to what Teyon said, in the tutorial he says that 11x17 is the standard size for the original page, and then it is scaled down to print size, explaining the smaller numbers.

Excellent tutorial, as well. Next step is for me to take some initiative and do something with this helpful knowledge stuff.
Hi, guys,
Thanks a lot for your posts, really glad you´ve liked it and I am really looking forward to seeing more of you posting sequential art (not only traditional, but I also drool at the thought of seeing your CG talent applied to a comic).
Thanks for spotting that print size thing too.
You´re right, those print size measures for Bleed, Trim and Live area are all in inches.
You may have a problem when you acale your 11" X 17" page down to print size since they don´t correspond exactly to 6.875" X 10.497" (it´s one of those things I never understood why nobody ever mentions).
Most of the times I just uncheck the “contrain proportions” when resizing the page in Photoshop and disregard the slight distortion, otherwise you can just work in a 11.137" X 17" page.
I may have a couple more tidbits, mostly about pacing and sequential tricks, but I didn´t want to get too caught up on rules and techniques for now.
After all, you have to give your Muse room to breathe.
Great Man!!!
Whitout words!!

This is great, just what I needed when I needed it
Thanks a bunch dude!
I am working on a idea for a graphic novel (hate the word Comic) using lightwave instead of the tradition pencil/ink route.
Parabéns, Eliseu excelente trabalho!
Congratulations, that tutorial was awesome! I remember when you won the Amadora contest prize (long ago!) and it was well deserved! Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!
Thanks!
