Making a brush follow a path

I have a brush following a path but my main issue is how can make sure its smooth without it creating small gaps as it winding around a corner? So for example if you have a square brush and it follows a path around a corner it creates triangle type gaps.

Now I could change its spacing to 0 but it has to be 100% in order for the repeating pattern to flow. Any ideas (and yes I’ve tried illustrator but it won’t let me use a raster image for a pattern on a stoke unless I’m mistaken and I don’t know about a certain option in order to make it work.

Try switching on Angle Jitter for the brush and changing its Control input to Direction.
