MadCar (Plugin for Car Animation)

#141

Well, it is a really great plug-in and i like it very much. Its just fun to build an environment and drive in the max viewport.

I would love to have a function to burn the finished animation completly in keyframes for archiving finished projects. That would be a live safer in case to build an animation in i.e. max2008 and reopen it later in max2009 (where your great plug-in is not recompiled by now)

Will you think about some sort of this?
And may be a way of animating the car along a spline would also be very nice…

Thanks again for kindness to bring us all this fantastic tool.

thnx
i use the sample scene but everything in the scene came out as greymaterial.
Is this normal?
or something wrong with mine?

#143

That’s perfectly normal - the plugin is only for simulating car movement - you have to provide the photoreal shaders and lighting yourself.

Hi there. Thanks for the great plugin. I seem to be having a problem with it though. I setup the madcar plugin correctly, start the onrundriving and it was working fine. But now when I try onrundriving, it still runs, but there is a delay when I try and control the car and also I have to keep left clicking on the madcar panel (in the viewport) for the car to react. Any way to sort this out ?

Cheers

hi ,

fantastic plugin you’ve done here!

i sucessfuly rigged my car with madcar, started some animation test and it works very well!

but i got 2 issues : lots of delay when animating, i have a really decent computer ( quad core, and ati x1950pro) didn’t think was so heavy

edit: increase the delay factor to 30+

the second thing is that when turning the steering wheels, it’s very aggressive, is it possible to tweak the steering value so it’s way smoother?

Edit : decrease the rudder value

here is my test :

Ahau that was hilarious, puts my one to shame! I’m still tweaking mine but I just have to say it’s an excellent plugin when combined with the tutorial on evermotion.org.

My only problem is that it doesn’t support more than 4 wheels which is a problem for trucks, vans and some emergency vehicles. Could anyone suggest a way to mod in an extra set of wheels on the back, purely for rotation and suspension.

#148

I linked it properly I think… but when I try the onrundriving it doesnt move. I’m such a newb when it comes to rigging and animation. Help!

#149

make sure you update the terrain, reset animation, on run (?) driving - usually works for me after that.

#150

um… not working for some reason. I used asign controller to link the car parts which it does go into the place I want. Then I click update surface, recalc, reset animation, and click on onrundriving… but it doesnt go anywhere. It just stays still, am I suppose to animate it first or somthin or does it just automatically drive off and I record it as Im driving? Im sorry for being so clueless with this.

#151

no you don’t have to animate it. does just the default madcar work? like if you just add one to the scene and add the terrain to it / recalc / reset / drive - does that work?

#152

Nevermind it works now! I just deleted the plugin and redownloaded it and for some reason it works now. lol This thing is GENIUS.

#153

Glad you got it working buddy, I was very impressed by it’s features except the lack of support for more than 4 wheels. I got awful performance on my PC too, but it’s super old.

If I was rigging a 4 wheeled vehicle and had a $1400 PC I’d definitely be using MadCar. I went for EZCarRig written by a French coder.

nkLove this software, and thought i’d give something back to the community

We really would like a version of the plugin for Max 2009 32 bit please… if you get a chance…

Otherwise, beautiful bit of kit…

#156

Thanks for this AWESOME plugin! It is obvious you put an incredible amount of thought and effort into its development.

I do have one request though… Could you please provide a Max2009_32bit version?

Thanks again!

#157

is there a way of using this plug-into follow a dummy object along a path and key frame accordingly? As in the Craft 4 wheeler plug in? Ive been trying to use the mouse and the keyboard to control the direction and speed but is just too slow and painful (unless i was trying to simulate an over cautious learner driver!) so id like to remove all the trial and error and just have my vehicle do and go were its ment to… fantastic plug in all the same - you could of made a fortune with it! (glad its free though!)
