Macro blocks lit from another image source

#1

Hi,

Is there any way to make after effects light up a macro block only when enough of the background pixels are lit?

To explain better I’m attaching two pictures.

1- we see the macro blocks and the underlying image in red.
2- we see the macro blocks lit in blue where enough background image pixels are.

I did this approximation by hand in photoshop. Is there any way to do this automatically in AE?

Thank you in advance.

Effects --> Stylize --> Mosaic
Effects --> Simulation --> Card Dance

Oldest trick in the hat…

Mylenium,

Thank you for your quick answer! It does appear to do exactly what I want. I know of mosaic filter, but would never have thought to use it. I’ll have to give a card dance a go, since this is the 1st time I hear of it.

I’ll give it a go soon and post how it goes.

Thanks again.
