LW FBX anyone know what the update is?

#1

Like the title asks…I remember someone saying NT are doing some FBX updates. Anyone know details?

Their site still directs you to “visit Kaydara at www.Kaydara.com” …YIKES!
on second thought…maybe I should follow my instincts and not even ask this question.

There are a couple of threads in the 9.5 OB section of the Newtek forum if you’re able to view them.

I would imagine the NDA prevents me from saying any more than that.

There is nothing in the latest PDF about either of them… And i cannot see any FBX/Collada import. They didn’t even take the time to put the commands in the Import area of Lightwave, or give it a blurb in the readme.

And despite the press release saying mentioning FBX I/O it actually appears as if the FBX/Collada is actually just FBX import (at least at this stage) as there is no option to import .fbx.

Honestly sometimes i wonder.

If you don’t yet own version 9.0 and therefore are unable to be part of the open beta program then you will have to wait until the final release of 9.5 for details on this feature since it is definitely under NDA at the moment.

#5

You couldn’t be more missinformed than this…

Join the OB and have a look… you’ll be quite surprised.

#6

Really non-sense. I really can’t realize what you’re talking about. Jump into 9.5 OpenBeta, and see with your own eyes.

#7

Thanx guys, but OB’s not much help if you want to know what NT have changed before paying for the upgrade.

Found an alternative today, so no worries.

#8

In 9.5 you simply have full import/export support for FBX, Collada and Obj formats.

What do you need to know more?

Well what I was needing right now was Maya7+>MBVer5+>LWV7+> and back FBX i/o.

But what about-

Proper bones to skeleton i/o…not nulls conversion?

MotionBuilder control rig animation i/o without the need to bake on the skeleton?

Full Body IK i/o -multiple pivots and floor contacts?

But since you say it’s all working there’s no need to ask.

Well, join the OB if you need to know… We are under NDA and can’t say anything about specific features, so there is very little point in asking here.

Here is a question for you:

Could you tell me how I can bring a the above mentioned things from MotionBuilder to Maya? Would love to know, because I have no clue and we always bake everything to bones.

I wasn’t asking again, just trying to point out why Lino’s comment was not realistic. And I’m not paying just to get in on OB… I already posted that I found another solution to what I was looking for .

The items I mentioned were in the Maya WIN FBX plugin since ver7 …it was listed in the gmk_fbx200508_maya_doc0 PDF. All the plugins are still available at usa.autodesk.com
