Loosing detail in the displacement map?

Posted this on the Area forum but no one seems to be using that much…
Can someone please explain to me why, when I create my disp map and apply it to the base mesh inside of mudbox (just to test it works), the detail looks to have halfed? I am exporting the disp map like so

Low Poly - Level 1 - subd = Good
High Poly Subd - level 5 - subd = None

Map size = 2048 x 2048

Edge Bleed = 4
Search Dist = 6 (any lower and i get holes in the map)

Preset = Maya
Tiff 32 bit float format.

The map is a whole body waist up, could the amount of detail inside the map be the reason for lacking detail?
