"Looking for Trouble" - Book Illustration

#1

This is an illustration for a personal project that I’m working on. I’m still developing the characters, the gear, and other items in the story. I started with a manual illustration and then rendered this illustration with CorelDraw X5. I intend to add more texture and lighting later on.

This image is also posted in my CGSociety portfolio, I apologize in advance to the moderators if posting it here as well is not allowed. Many thanks!

When working with line weight, you need to think about why you are using thick or thin lines.

Line thickness can be used to convey the following:

Weight (thick = heavy, thin = light)
Scale/Size (thick = large, thin = small)
Distance (thin = far, thick = near)
Light direction (thick = shadow side, thin = lit side)
Concave/Convex (thick = concave, thin = convex)

So when you incorporate those into your work, all of a sudden, you’ll notice that your image become a lot more coherent and have a sense of dynamic that it didn’t have before, where there’s a better sense of weight, distance, lighting, form, and so on.

Hello Lunatique, Thank you for your suggestions, I’ll definitely keep them in mind in all of my future illustrations!
