I am following the help menu and jeremy sutton’s demo and cannot get liquid metal to do anything. well actually it does every function but let me draw. could someone explain how to set this up in painter x to work
Liquid metal
I’m not sure what you could be doing wrong, Kraal. Presumably you have the Liquid Metal dialogue still open when you are attempting to draw, and you have clicked on the brush icon in the dialogue prior to drawing?
My Liquid metal dialogue settings are as follows, from which I can draw on a Liquid Metal Floater Layer;
Brush icon selected (clicked) (there is no state indication of which icon button is currently selected on my Mac G5 PPC in Leopard).
Amount -4.3
Smooth 100%
Size 13.4
Volume 83%
Spacing 0.291
Map: Standard Metal
Display Handles: not checked
Surface Tension: Checked
Refraction 11%

Can you draw with your normal mouse after clicking the brush icon in the Liquid Metal dialogue?

Other than suggesting you reset the application to factory default settings (by holding down the Shift key whilst starting/launching Painter), I can only guess that this may be a software conflict with your O.S. or something else running in the background. If you use the above reset option, remember to back up your Painter X User folder to a different location first, as all your custom items will otherwise be lost).
David
thanks for your help where tdo I back up my papers and stuff. I see the brushe folder but where are the papers?
Hi Kraal,
It all depends on where you have saved any custom resources. The Painter X custom paper libraries should have a ‘.papers’ file extension, but older version paper libraries will have a ‘.pap’ extension on the PC (assuming you are on the PC platform). These libraries may be located in your Painter X User folder > Workspace folder (the default workspace folder in named ‘Default’ on the Mac, but you may have created other custom ones).
Also, if you have any custom brush libraries/ variants in your Painter X Application folder > Brushes folder, I would back these up to a different location too. You need to be very careful with custom item backups before resetting to factory defaults.
Painter X User folder file paths (may be different in Vista);
Mac - Users > [User Name] > Library > Application Support > Corel > Painter X > [Workspace Name] > Brushes etc.
Windows - Documents and Settings > [User Name] > Application Data > Corel > Painter X > [Workspace Name] > Brushes etc.

Not sure if there is an easier way, but I do it via the Paper Mover function. Open your Papers palette (under Windows/Library Palettes) then click on the small arrow in the top right corner, choose Paper Mover.
Now either choose open and find the default Painter papers file (which is called papers.papers I think) and drag any new papers that you’ve made to the right window;
or
choose New and give it a file name etc, then click and drag the papers from the left side box to the right side box;
then choose Done. That will save the papers (note that it doesn’t actually say ‘save’ anywhere).
Whatever you do don’t choose ‘Close’ on the left hand side before you’ve moved any new papers to the right because they wont be saved!
Also if you’ve got any custom brush/paper palettes save them via Windows/Custom Palette/Organiser and Export each to a place of your choice.
Thanks for mentioning the custom palettes Fiona, although they can be recreated, it is much easier to export the palette, then choose the Import option from the Custom Palette Organizer dialogue.

all that is done still no go… well I wonder if i just have a bad installer cause i even reinstalled and nothing… oh well it isnt that big of a deal just wanted to play around with them. all other plug ins work fine.
I am also unable to draw with the liquid metal brush tool. The RAIN button works but the drawing tools or move tool won’t highlight and cannot be used.
I have restored the software to factory defaults and done a complete uninstall and reinstall but the problem persists. (BTW, the liquid metal brushes work OK if I use Painter IX).
My setup is Painter 10.1.052, Mac OS 10.5.5
Thank you for any ideas. :banghead:
David, I have an Intel Core Duo. I had seen your previous post and tried your rosetta fix but to no avail.
Thanks, Sand Dragon. I found this works. I am using Painter 10.1.052 an Intel Core 2 Duo Mac OS 10.5.5.
I had actually tried the fix suggested before. I found that the brush or oval icon in the Liquid Metal did not highlight when clicked (as I had seen in Painter IX) and assumed Liquid Metal was still not working under Rosetta. On following up your post I retried under Rosetta and the Liquid Metal does in fact work even though the icons don’t highlight as I had anticipated.
