Liquid Halftone question

Hi there guys.
I am trying to achieve a liquified halftone pattern where you can see the dots merge in a very interesting way. I guess we have all seen this in the Coca Cola commercials it should look like this (red area signifies the liquid effect…)

The easiest way would be to gaussian blur the layer until the dots touch each other a bit, then add a levels adjustment and constrain it until the dots become sharp again. Requires quite a bit of experimentation to get the right levels.

I’ll try that. Not sure it achieves the liquid effect though…
