linux + maya keyboard setup

hey all, installed maya on my other drive with suse9.2, but i am having abit of trouble figuring how to fix the alt + mouse button settings. when i try to move within the viewports the whole maya window starts to move. how do i set the keys in linux to stop this from happening.
