LightWave 3D Group releases NevronMotion

#1

NevronMotion is a paid plugin from LightWave 3D Group that gives users all new motion capture tools for retargetting mocap from FBX or BVH formats within LightWave 11.6. It also includes options for recording your own full body and facial mocap on a budget via the Microsoft Kinect.

The price is $299 or $199 until July 31st.

Very Odd name that they picked… Makes me think of never on!

#3

I Googled “nevron” to see if I could find the meaning of it or where they got it and apparently it’s quite a common word to use as a name. It does seem to mean “neuron” in Norwegian if that helps.

#4

Also in Sweden it is common to pronounce Neuron as Nevron.

#5

Lol, well I hope not.
But its just one more in a long list of crazy Lightwave names that I have to translate when I’m talking to people with other software. “Blend shapes? Oh you mean Endomorphs.”

The product that impressed the hell out of me at SIGGRAPH is
ChronoSculpt

Here is a thread for it:
NewTek LW Group Announced ChronoSculpt

#7

The name appears to be derived from Greek words having to do with puppetry. Nevrospastos, which means “drawn, or pulled with strings.” Nevron, meaning either “sinew, tendon, muscle, string, or wire.”

#8

ChronoSculpt does look very good. NevronMotion looks promising, as well!

Being able to use kinect as a cheap mocap setup is amazing. I wonder how easy it is to set up.

#10

I think the point of it is mostly the retargeting to be honest since LW was historically missing quite a few features for Mocap. Since they seem to be targeting sets more and more good on them for catching up.

Kinect input is a triviality though, you can find Python plugins floating around for other platforms that will read the default kinect output just fine

Not to take anything away from Nevron, just saying the Kinect part is kind of… I don’t know, Toy feature? MS and 3rd parties provide a ton of really easy to use libs and bindings for kinect, it’s a lot easier to do stuff with it than people think.

#11

okay, great news wheres the url for a free/cheap plugin for 3dsmax that doesn’t require motion builder (plus £3000 to buy motion builder)?

#12

What I’m saying is that the “amazing” bit isn’t Kinect support, as MS provides an excellent SDK and there are tons of implementations and OSS kits out there, so it’s not a lot of work to put one together.

For Maya:

I don’t follow Max, but a few people seem to be following this:
http://rubenhenares.404fs.com/kinect-maxscript-and-c-–-04/
Which I don’t think is available for DL yet (contact the author maybe?).

Ali uses Maya AFAIK, so I was informing him he already has the option since he didn’t seem to know. Nowhere I said there’s something available for every platform, all I said is that it’s a piece of cake to do that kind of stuff.
Don’t get your panties in a bunch, I’m not bashing NT.
