Lighting Challenge #23: Mad Science (WIP)
Hey Uday, I really like your chosen view, tells the story from the rats point of view.
kanooshka :- One thing i really loved in ur image is the buttons and the display of the radio thing. And ofcourse the Syringe. As your First WIP i can imagine what next is gonna come from you. Waiting for more of your images.
Solo-art :- Hey Buddy, you have got some nice feel in the image. your magic Ball and Bunny has came out really well and also the liquids and caustics. All the best and hope to see more of these great images from you.
uday kadkade :- Hey Uday, you have always been one of my favorites in Lighting Challenges. I always look forward to see your images. Here also the start is looking good. Basically the camera angle. And there is not much to comment on bcoz you have not started with your texturing. So hope to see your next images asap. All the best.
gagan :- The image has came out good, basically the texturing, but i think its way to much saturated. most of the parts of the image has become black. Just try to make it more visible. Everyting else is looking good. All the best.
Here’s another update - changed the colour of the lights to left, and I decided to play around with the lighting on the main beaker as kanooshka suggested. Also did some work with the caustics.

Hey Guys,
This is my first attempt at this challenges, i’ve tried to create mood, and blocked the lights. Yet to work on few textures. would be glad to get your views.
Hi,
This is my first attempt at this Lighting Challenge, ive just blocked out the light , worked on the mood a bit, yet to work on textures. pls give your suggestions. Thank you
Thanks for the feedback and compliments!
Updates Include:
Tile color adjustment, some textures added, brain sculpted in ZBrush, SSS added to brain, paper, wood, rubber and plastic. Added kick light to device and antennae, softened the cool fill light in the upper left of the image.
Hope to post a breakdown soon with my final image.
Don’t you realize…

That the rat is the mad scientist?
Just one light so far, unless you count the lightning. Need to light up the lab, at least so that you can see the cloth hanging over the cage. Done in Carrara 8.
hi all here is my update

kanooshka : thank u for your comments , i tried to solve those problems. and i liked your render, very nice.
spurcell : I like your’s too, but expect some red light around the plasma ball . good going
kanooshka -
Wow! That’s a great image. The best you’ve ever done, right? Nice illustrative quality, great composition, really great NPR look.
The shadow on the brain jar looks a little unconvincing, it’s shaped like a quotation mark and seems to cut-off the nice yellow fill very abruptly. Maybe that shadow could at least be a lot softer.
On the radio (or whatever the device is called), the square lights in the front could be more convincing. Right now the glow seems to extend out right through them, maybe it would be better if they had a more solid look like this:
http://blog.broadcastengineering.com/nab/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/080821-snell-wilcox-kahuna-2.JPG
And the left side of the radio seems very flatly lit, maybe if it looked more like a broad specular highlight there, getting darker towards the bottom, it would look better for having the gradient.
The front dark surface of the books in the foreground could use just a little bit of green specular or a green kick, just enough to give them some presence on that side.
Again, really awesome work.

jeremy: Thank you very much for both the compliment and the critique, I really appreciate it. I’ll work on your suggestions. Great reference for the buttons, I’m looking forward to updating them.

Updated this adding textures to the wall, table, and the electricity. I setup more pink lights to help boost the illumination from the electricty. =)
The reference to the glowy buttons are great! i got to get around to add that to my piece! Thanks Jeremy!
edit

did a few more updates today as well! =)
- added textures to the papers, radio, and shelf.
- used a blend shader to add more spec onto the silver materials
- made more colours of liquids in the tubes.
- took out the strange highlight on the front of the table.
Hi All…
Here is my update with a few changes.
Have worked on brain a bit and the Table Top.

Thanks.
