amitlighting: Nice images! Out of the 3 images I feel the the first fits the theme best so I’ll focus on that image. A lot of objects, especially in the desk area are very dark. Try creating some specular highlights from the xrays onto the objects in the scene, in particular the glass ones. The syringe in the foreground takes my eye right off the page. Try rotating it 90 degrees or so, to bring my eye into the image or at least to point to an area of interest.

ashwinkumar7: Good work! I like the dramatic lighting you have at the top of the image down onto the top of the tall beaker but then as my eye travels further down it turns into a middle gray/dark image. I think you could pull a nice dramatic Rembrandt style image out of this. http://www.commed.uchc.edu/medicalhumanities/images/art/rembrant_anatomy_lg.gif

bips03: Nice job. The black glass is most likely a trace depth issue. I’m not sure what software you’re using but there’s usually trace depth on the light, material and global render settings. For this challenge you may need to turn it up from anywhere between 4-10 or even greater depending on the setup. As for the lighting, it’s ok, but very flat and ambient looking. Try giving the light some more directionality and if you’re using ambient light, use an occlusion pass for shadows if they’re not enabled on the light.

djprasun: Good job with this image so far. The glass objects in the scene could use more definition. Besides the inverted environment refraction it’s very difficult to notice quickly what is going on. Try getting some highlights and reflections that show the shape of those surfaces.

subhankar: Nice start. You want to be careful of having a sharp line across the image like you have right now. I’d recommend moving your shot in a little closer, higher or changing the aspect ratio. The way the light is hitting everything is a little boring, try adding some dropoff and penumbra onto the light. Keep going.

zbugja: Nice atmosphere! The rat is looking very wet right now, not sure if that’s intentional. I’d like to see some warm light bouncing off of the table and onto and into the cage. It may be a good idea to have something to reflect behind the camera as well as a selective increase in the amount of fill light in some areas such as in the cage and on top.

gagan: Welcome! Solid start. I guess you have to ask yourself what mood you’re trying to portray. If this were a studio render it would be okay though the framing is a little strange because there are objects cut off. One thing that gives away a 3d studio render are the sharp square highlights. On your light source and/or reflection card try fading the edges a little bit. The way you executed the plasma ball works very well. I’d like to see a version of this where that is a main light source.

a new one! needs some touchups here and there but it’s close to what i want. 3dsmax scanline render, if anyone cares. cheers!

#265

Thanks PMCB,

That was indeed a lot clearer. I don’t use Max but maya that’s why I didn’t understand the first time around. But now it’s quite clear. Thank a lot!

Hi All,

This is my first submission in this challenge. Some great works has been submitted. I have used 3Ds Max and Vray and a bit of Photoshop. Please leave your comments and critics.

HI RES IMAGE

Thanks.

Slightly different view. Still enjoying the challenge.
Going to try and get the lighting to fit a bit better with the background. Also going to try and get it looking a bit more dramatic.

#268

Something like this, ambience-wise, some sloppy photoshopping in there, gonna remedy that later on. I also going to work some more on the composition.

Wow, there are some really nice ones going on here!

Visua-love that counter top, most of all.

Ollie-the idea of having that large lab behind the scene I like a great deal.

Nitz-the color scheme you’ve chosen really hits a mood, and your liquids are fantastic.

Zbugja-the lighting in this one really gives off a sense of foreboding, great work.

I’d love to comment on the rest, but I just got off of work and am exhausted. I re-worked the lighting a bit, kept the gel on the main four points and added an overhead light with the basic white settings. The liquids are supposed to be dirty looking, and the shaders are still in the beginning stages. I didn’t have the time I thought I’d have in this. No postwork just yet, just the raw rendering.

#270

Well I have wanted to do one of these for a long time and even got started on a few of them. Here is where I am at so far. Lots of materials left to do!

#271

Hi guys!
I´m starting with texturing and shading…

#272

Hello hello! I took a little time off but now I’m jumping back in because I missed it too much. I’m just starting to tinker with this scene so I’ve mostly been messing with shaders, only added a couple Area lights to mimic the neons one might have in a science lab. Going to add more but I need to get to bed. Good luck everyone!

#273

Here’s my first WIP. Interested in some feedback.

#274

Hi sir, Thanks a lot for replying. That would really be a great tip. i’ll surely be committed to do the correction and upload the updated version asap. Keep sharing. Thanks again…

Hello everyone,

This is my first pass to this challenge!

I still need to work on some technical things going on with the glass and liquid material… there’s some sections that are black… I may just remodel it!

Any feedback would be great. I’ll try to unwrap this soon and get around to texturing some of the objects. =)

#276

kanooshka, I’m lovin’ the composition and great focus + the purple moody light. keep 'em comin

#277

@kanooshka: Lookin good, I really like the panel you made for the radio-thingee. I would like to se some nice rims or fill-lights from behind/left to give elements like the radio, antennas and such some more punch.

#278

Hello,

I have tried changing the lighting and environment.

#279

Thanks for the positive remarks and observations guys, I agree with them all, here is an ammended render, more focus on the orb, soft lighting, caustics, and a story.

I added one of my cartoon models so it’s now ‘LOONEY SCIENCE’.

There is no post processing, raw Thea render.
