Lighting Challenge #22: The Carnival (WIP)

#81

Hello there. Thanks for the critiques, punytjoshi, kanooshka. Yes there were a lot of space and I couldn’t fill it up with stuff at such short notice.
Here’s my next update. Only worked on the composition. And would some dof be good in this?
And kanooshka, I will work on the lighting on the your advise.

Critiques and comments are most welcome.
T.

here’s the ffull version
a few passes i made for this version

tuffmutt1: very nice!
I would decrease wheel glare, it looks kind of “nuke bright”. Also balloons are maybe a bit to shiny? The rest is excellent.

priyakotian, I think you should do something with the dof. Now the carousel looks like a miniature. I can’t recollect the exact technical term for it though. The rest looks good to me. Especially the horses.

tuffmutt1: Looking great! One thing I’m noticing is that with such bright warm light being emitted from the carousel I’d expect more specular reflections as well as warm diffuse lighting on the objects nearby, most importantly the fence, bench and balloons. Also, thanks for posting the breakdown.

guatambhardwaj: Keep going, I hope these images will inspire you for the 'Tale of Horror':

priyakotian: Nice work! With such a shallow depth of field from a distance the image looks like a miniature, I’m not sure if this is intended. If you want to have the shallow depth of field, it may be better to move the camera in extremely close to the carousel or just increase the depth of field.

halfPintMike: Nice update, the composition is looking much better. A nice sky texture should help out eventually. Some DOF will eventually be good in this, but make sure not to overdo it, there won’t need to be excessive blurring. Looking forward to more updates!

Shordy: Nice work so far, feel free to move any models around! You also may want to try decreasing the field of view of the camera to minimize the change in perspective.

thanks for the crits…here’s an update…added rim lights to the metal barriers and more fill from the carousal lights on to the floor…full version here

#91

Here is an update, let me know what you think.

#92

Ok I think ill give this a try.
I’m not to sure how well it will come out as I’m very new to this, only just starting school but looks like it could be a lot of fun.

#93

i have tried zooming it a bit…hope its looking fine now…

#94

I guess the technical term is shiftlens. I will post my WIP this week. Does anyone have a tuts for night illumination ? I’m re-reading the classic of jeremy. I’m trying with a blue skylight and omni+area. Hope it works . Great work so far. Tuftmutt is always a top partecipant so cool (and fast) his renderings !
I like the spirit of this one !

#95

Hi. great challenge thanks kanooshka. Soon i will post my image.

tuffmutt1 - Awsome image and you really improve every time. But one thing, see your sky the color is a little warm, like orange, right?. But the ambient light in the scene is like blue. I mind i dont see the match between you orange-purple sky, with the rest of the objects. For example, the floor recevied blue ambient color.

I dont know maybe i wrong. But beautiful image… excellent.

Hello,

Have been away for a while now. Finally got time to work on this challenge.
I love all the render’s from every artist. This challenge is going to be a real good one.

Here is my render so far. Going for child fantasy, don’t know if I am in right direction.

Cheers,
Nirav

p.s. - Thanks a ton Kanooshka !!

Niravsheth: Very nice! I like the atmosphere you’ve created, I definitely feel the child’s fantasy. There seems to be an issue with the bottom of the carousel on the bright area. The side goes from very bright to touching the ground almost black ground. Looking forward to seeing textures and materials.

ninepan: Welcome! Good start, make sure your lights are casting shadows.

fredduck: Welcome! I really like the atmosphere you’ve created. Some areas could use some fill light, in particular the inside of the carousel, bench, balloons and trashcans. With such bright sun light I’d expect a lot of bounce light.

priyakotian: The depth of field is looking much better. The lights inside of the carousel don’t seemed to be producing any light and instead the light is coming from a mysterious light source. Make sure to give your lighting motivation.

Voigg: I’m not sure but I feel like your depth map shadows may be too soft, there’s a lot of light leaking going on or perhaps some GI issues?

tuffmutt1: Very nice! The bench and balloons could use some warm fill from the carousel especially on the bars on the bottom of the bench. The sky also looks warmer than the light being cast on the bench. Perhaps the balloons could use a higher diffuse value, they’re very dark compared to the rest of the scene.
