Lighting Challenge #21: The Bedroom

#441

Hi  Nice scene you have.
Just a small thing I have noticed: you need to rotate UVW of the drawers so the wood grains are along the longer side.
Cheers

Nice and detailed scene
But I think in such ntidy room, owner would have a path where he walks to his bed and to door between bottles. and bottles will be lined along 2 sides of this path.

Hello Jeremy, thank you for your feedback. I will try to change it tomorrow.

here is my winter mood render.

Looks like I’m late for the party. Don’t know if I’ll have time to finish, too busy…
I’m rendering with 3delight.

Hey Jeremy,

I love the lighting challenges, and there are many great entries here. Thanks a bunch.

I was attracted to what you were saying about Monet’s haystacks, and so my intent was to render with one camera position, one set of materials, and to achieve all the moods with lighting alone. Unfortunately, I’ve run out of time, and I only have two done.

Okay, here’s my first one. Would love to hear any feedback!

Hopefully I’ll have time to do some more. This is the first time I’ve done one of these challenges.

It was done in Maya 2009, Mental Ray, Global Illumination and Final Gather. No compositing yet, I just left it dark outside the window for now.

Does anyone know how to get rid of those ā€œlens flareā€ looking things from the shader glow? I’d like to lose those but don’ t know how. Also there are some ā€œspecklesā€ around the monitor where the actual light sources are located. I’ve raised the samples up, but how high can I/should I go with that?

Thanks

ON EDIT: I changed this render, posted it way further along in the thread, just wanted to come back and replace this old one with the new one. I like the new one better, insofar as how it looks on other computers etc. The old one looked great on my HD monitor, but on a regular laptop it looked too dark.

Hey, I really love that. That’s a very original concept and you’re pulling it off in a very interesting way. Cool colors! I never would have thought of that.

#452

Eduroam, thank you. Yes I need to add a background. I really don’t have an appropriate one now. Still searching.

So time for version 2, havent had the time at all to put the effort into this version that i woud have liked to but maybe i do for version 3 :).

Ackee - That’s beautiful already! For the morning light, a little more color contrast (warm sun, cool sky fill) could help, maybe with some pinks and purples worked into the fill light. A lot of bounce light, where the light from the sun bounces back into the scene with a warm glow, could really help the happy feeling of the scene.

a compare to version 1
